At long last, the Jag has arrived! Living on a narrow and busy road, I had the delivery driver go to my local, The King’s Head, which is only a few hundred yards away and has room to unload. The instructions were for the driver to call me 30 minutes out. So much for best laid plans…..the phone rang at 6:45am! He said, “I am at the King’s Head and no one here knows anything about your car”….duh!
So, quickly toss on some clothes and out we go. He already had it unloaded, so a quick sign and I was no my way. I couldn’t resist a little ten mile drive just to be sure everything was OK. No transit damage, though a lot of dust and a few greasy marks on the carpets where someone’s dirty boots were.
Back at the cottage I did a proper clean up and then went out for fuel and a long ride. THIS is what I brought the car over for! As my new friends would say, “brilliant”.
Amongst the much needed items packed in the car were my golf clubs, so now I can start hoping for sunshine in a big way, though the locals seem to play in all kinds of weather. Stopped at Naunton Downs course today. It was windy and cold, and the parking lot was full of golfers, on a Tuesday!
I’ve been trying as many pubs in the area as possible (for the food of course) and actually keeping a journal with my ratings, which I will leave behind for future renters. Tried a new place today in Stow, The Talbot. Great old place with a nice “baguette sandwich selection”. Sausage and Stilton Cheese! Outstanding with a little Colmar mustard. See below.
The weather is supposed to improve dramatically starting tomorrow, with temps up to 80. We will see. It has been dry, so I took the Jag down to the King’s Head tonight, as I had promised my new BFFs. Of course, the minute I got there it started to rain, so had to take it back to it’s new home, my neighbor’s carport. Get to clean it up all over again tomorrow.
I have two events over the next week, a weekend JDC meet in the Hampshire’s and a four day tour in Suffolk sponsored by the XK Club. If the weather really does turn, it should be a great next few days of driving. I am going to try to break out my new Go Pro and see if I can figure out how to get some video.
By the way, we are experimenting with a new email system to notify you of new blogs. Maybe it will solve the problem of only a few folks getting the notices.
